| The Heatons Youth Climate Commission ask questions of Navendu Mishra MP and other panellists | The Youth Commission are Hannah, Willem and Ruby Colin Foster has been a Labour Councillor in for Heatons South in Stockport since 1990. He is currently Cabinet Member for Children, Family Services and Education. Emma Greenwood is Youth MP for Bury, and an organising member of Youth Strike Manchester. Sarah Bridle is a professor in the Physics Department at the University of Manchester working on cosmology and food. Her most recent book, Food and Climate Change – Without the Hot Air is published in September 2020 by UIT Cambridge. Andy Burnham was elected as Mayor of Greater Manchester in May 2017. He is hosting the Manchester Green Summit 2020-a free virtual event-from Monday 21st to Thursday 24th September. |

| Being green and having fun! | Rachel Lewis and Camilla Reghenzi set up Plastic Shed to bring people together in Stockport to turn plastic waste into new, useful things. From wallets made from waste plastic packaging to planters made from old vinyl banners – Plastic Shed are exploring the possibilities of this abundant waste material, sharing their learnings and finding ways for local people, from all walks of life, to get hands on with tackling this shared problem. |

| Let the Heatons Breathe – ideas for local walking and cycling that will help you see more and feel healthy. | Angie Taylor a retired Special Needs teacher, will talk about the local walks she loves and are suitable for everyone (including dogs), within the beautiful Heatons and surrounding green spaces. Sarah McClelland is a local resident who loves using both pedal power and walking. She will tell us about some of the quiet routes that SLH cyclists have found for social, commuting and pleasure trips; and give tips on less carbon-intensive holidays. Andy Kyffin is a professional bike mechanic and owner of the North West Mountain Bike & BMX Centre who will tell you all you want to know about electric-assist bikes. |
| Initiatives for making the Heatons a safer space for children, walkers, cyclists and drivers – that are out for consultation in September | Faye Drinkwater, is Sustainable Journeys Delivery Officer at Transport for GM. She will talk about free cycle training available for beginners and the experienced. She’ll also give us the latest on Public Transport ,Travel Planning and access to bikes. Rod King MBE, the Founder and Campaign Director of “20’s Plenty for Us”, helps local communities nationwide (and beyond) and influences governments to improve road safety by reducing speed limits. Hear thoughts on his post-Covid travel improving the Highway Code. Andy Howard is Planning & Delivery Officer for Walking & Cycling at TfGM, and will talk about Manchester’s Bee Network and the recent ‘Changing Gear’ policy from the DfT to help Pedestrians and Riders on our roads. |
| Wild About Heatons – where to go in the Heatons to enjoy its wildlife | Emilia Adamson was brought up in the Heatons. She recently finished a degree in Biology and now works as an ecological consultant. She brings her passion, enthusiasm and knowledge of nature to her presentation about wildlife in the Heatons. Dave Higginson-Tranter works for Stockport for Carers. He uses his extensive knowledge about nature to inspire others through his walk, talks and video recordings. Jeff Clarke has a passion for the natural world and loves sharing that enthusiasm with as many people as possible. As an environmental educator with 26 years of experience he can bring innovation, inspiration and fun to lessons, through Jeff Clarke Ecology. |

| How to be ambitious with your building project but still be green – learned experience from local householders and professionals | Steve Howarth is a local entrepreneur. He built the first Ecohome (Passivhaus standard) in the Heatons in 2015. The house should be on Grand Designs! He will explain the process, technical issues and what the finished house is like to live in. Sara Darwin heads up phi- architects in the North West and designed Steve Howarth’s’ project. She is committed to cost efficient design and construction culminating in highly energy efficient solutions for both new build and older homes. |
| Support the Local Fight against Food Waste | Nadia Ali is a youth and community work coordinator who was recently presented a Citizens Award for community activity in Heaton Norris that included redirecting food surpluses to vulnerable people in the area. Josh Gaskell is a Churchwarden at Christ with All Saints’ Church in Heaton Norris, and is involved with a number of church activities, including the community garden. Lucy Danger is Chief Executive for EMERGE 3Rs, a charity incorporating Touch Wood and FareShare Greater Manchester …‘good food to good causes’. Emerge promotes the real 3Rs: Reduce, Re-use, Recycle & Sustainable Consumption. The company also provides volunteering opportunities, work experience and employability support. Sam Dugdale and Helena Mellish, husband and wife duo, are owners of Heatons-based catering company, ArtiSam Bespoke, a mobile food business with environmental sustainability at its core. They will soon be launching Seed Urban Farm, an indoor vertical farm in Vernon Mill, Stockport. |
| Electric Vehicles are now affordable – a practical session using local examples of their financing, use and carbon impact | Paul Dunk is Corporate Business Development Manager for Inchcape Volkswagen in Stockport, helping companies integrate EV’s and Hybrid vehicles into their Fleets. He has also worked for Tesla. He will share his perspectives on the increasingly rapid transition taking place in the car industry and give tips on financing, range anxiety and more. Mel Godfrey is Director of home energy consultancy WarminWinter and was surprised to become the driver of a new, fully electric vehicle in late 2019 Jason Smith, the Sustainable Journeys Delivery Officer (Clean Air) at TfGM, will describe the EV charging infrastructure across GM, both as it is and will be. And why the transition away from internal combustion engines is definitely taking place. |

| Inspiring Climate Action Ideas for businesses and community in the Heatons | Mark Glynn is Director of Place Management for Stockport MBC, responsible for neighbourhood management, housing, public protection, transport and open spaces. He is the professional lead for the Councils Climate Change Action Plan. He will talk about how the Council is facing these challenges and how it is inviting a whole community response. Jodi Flannery is Director of Eco-me.uk, a consultancy and supplier of healthier, more sustainable products for businesses and families. She was a founding member of the 4HTA “kicktheplastic campaign”, organising inspirational local events and initiatives to help our community reduce their plastic waste and pollution. Steve Pilling is a local hospitality entrepreneur responsible for familiar names such as the MoorTop, La Cantina and Roost. Hospitality is not an easy trade in which to make inroads into your carbon footprint as a business. Steve will talk about what his company is doing and planning to do in the teeth of the Covid crisis. Graeme Heyes is a specialist from MMU in sustainable business model innovation and environmental management. He develops frameworks that help businesses adapt to sustainability challenges. This includes high-level projects for the EU with the Greater Manchester region. He also contributes to A Good Design Studio – doing multidisciplinary innovation. Kes Scott is the CEO of KAST, experts in Renewable Energy and Low Carbon Technologies. They provide feasibility studies, energy reduction plans and project management to a wide range of sectors including Housing, Manufacturing, Facilities Management, Education, Retail, Sports & Leisure to maximise energy savings. |
| Buying Green in Heatons | Shelley Brown created The Good Life in Heaton Mersey, as a waste-free mini-market, that has already had a huge local impact since it opened in January 2019. It has a mission to inspire the community to make small changes, and to provide a fun place for people to easily shop in a more environmentally friendly way. Simon Haigh owns Ecomad, whose mission is to empower the customer to reduce their carbon impact on the planet. Ecomad supplies metal bottles, bamboo toothbrushes and cotton buds, and a wide range of non-plastic straws, and aims to ensure that no damage is done to the environment at any stage along the process of getting the products out to the customer. Amy Gray from Oakdale Bees.Oakdale Bees are beekeepers who are passionate about informing, engaging, and inspiring customers to make smart eco choices which will help save our much loved British Bees, replace single use plastic and help our beautiful planet breathe. Their apiary is on the edge of Windsor forest, set in our wild flower meadow and surrounded by woodlands, where they hand-make all their own products including natural beeswax wraps and a range of eco gift boxes. |

Aneaka’s role is all about growing the contractor community, engaging and training builders and suppliers around the retrofit of older homes. |
