In 2023, we had an idea that we wanted to use some green land at the top of Briars Mount to plant some spring bulbs. Briars Mount is just off Didsbury Road on the opposite corner of Bankhall Road. The land was just a small patch of green space with a very large copper beech tree. Our aim was that we wanted to brighten the area in spring and encourage bees to visit!
We obtained our permission from SMBC to plant on the site, and in Autumn 2023 began work with our first task day. It was an (unseasonably!) warm October day where a few people – both residents and local community and some of the SLH team turned out to get started on this project. We were later donated some extra bulbs from SMBC which a smaller group of us planted in December 2023.
It was great to see the first shoots coming up in the very early stages of 2024 and now looks amazing in full colour!
